08:31 pm - RIP, Arthur C. Clarke
Clarke's work was one of my first forays into reading real SF.  The Nine Billion Names of God remains one of my favorite short stories.

My reaction to this today was as if I'd been punched in the gut.  No matter how old they get (he was 90), or how ill they've been (and he has been in ill health for some time), it's still somehow a surprise when the people you look up to pass on into the great unknown.  I salute you, Mr. Clarke, and farewell.
